Workers Threaten Ethiopian Steel with Strike Employees claim intimidation,

Attempts to resolve their issues through the Ethiopian Industrial Federation of Construction, Wood, Metal, Cement, and Other Trade Unions (EIFCWMCOTU) have failed, according to the employees. “We gave a 10-day notice to go on strike if these issues are not immediately resolved through discussions,” the employees agreed in the meeting, according to its minutes. Upon previous complaints to the EIFCWMCOTU, this union had written to the management of Ethiopian Steel, asking the company to resolve the issue either through their collective agreement or through legal means, in a letter dated September 25, 2010.
