NASA to help Ethiopia prevent climate change through weather forecast

Addis Ababa, October 29, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will help Ethiopia in the establishment of an integrated program approach to prevent climate change risks through weather forecast activities, the Ethiopian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) said. Authority Deputy Director, Desalegn Mesfin said on Friday that the authority will sign with various research institutions including NASA cooperation agreement enabling to build capacity and exchange of information. The director said there would be transfer of technology and knowledge among the authority, the Addis Ababa University and the Johns Hopkins University Group of NASA. The agreement enables to forecast weather for 15 years. The Africa Adaptation Programme - Ethiopia (AAP-E) will help install systems, institutions, and processes for Ethiopia to scale up climate change adaptation initiatives as future sources of funding become available.
